What Are Allergies?
Allergies are really just a case of mistaken identity. Your body comes in contact with an ordinarily harmless - and sometimes even helpful - substance (an allergen), for example: pollen, pet hair, molds, milk, dust, and even vitamins and protein. Your immune system mistakenly identifies these substances as harmful and is negatively programmed to them. Over exposure, a traumatic event, such as surgery and even pregnancy, how a food substance was processed, and/or chemical food additives all are causes of negative programming to the immune system.
In each case the immune system overreacts to the allergens and attacks them as if they are an illness. Symptoms vary from person to person; you may not even be aware that the symptoms are the result of allergies. Symptoms such as: fatigue, digestive trouble, gas, bloating, weight gain or loss, and skin problems can be caused by allergies. Many common health conditions are a sign of underlying allergies.
Chronic or periodic allergic response or sensitivity to any substance produces a self perpetuating state of cellular inflammation. This state of inflammation can cause tissue damage and decrease the body's ability to absorb and distribute substances such as vitamins, minerals, and leads to reduced metabolism. Studies have shown that the release of cytokines and the resulting inflammation are responsible for many of the chronic illnesses in today's society.
